CADEO: The Outreach Mission in Vietnam to Promote Sustainability and Innovation
Vietnam is one of the world’s most captivating countries, but also one of the most environmentally vulnerable. Its geographical location makes it highly susceptible to natural disasters and weather-related losses, with climate change likely to further aggravate this situation. In this context, the CADEO Project (Climate change Adaptation using Digital geospatial twins and Earth Observation), under the leadership of Professor Maria Antonia Brovelli, plays a crucial role. From October 9 to 13, 2024, the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering (DICA) at Politecnico di Milano, represented by Ludovico Biagi, Daniele Oxoli, Vasil Yordanov, and Emanuela Zonca, carried out an outreach mission in Vietnam as part of this Erasmus+-funded project. During the mission, seminars were held at four universities across Ho Chi Minh City, Hue, and Hanoi, with a special event hosted at the Italian Embassy in Hanoi. The primary goal of the CADEO Project is to enhance Vietnam’s capacity to tackle climate-related challenges through the use of geospatial data and innovative technologies. These tools enable the monitoring, analysis, and prediction of environmental changes, providing essential resources for sustainable resilience strategies. Key Objectives and Achievements: * The development of 4 innovative courses focused on Earth Observation, Geospatial Intelligence, Web Geospatial Applications, and Digital Twins of the Earth. * Training for university faculty in Vietnam to strengthen local expertise in these technologies. * The establishment of a blended learning model and the creation of an eLearning system within Vietnamese universities, in collaboration with European universities. Through this collaboration, over 300 Vietnamese students will participate in the coming five years, contributing to the nation’s strengthened capacity for natural resource management and sustainable development. CADEO Project Partners: * Politecnico di Milano (POLIMI) – Italia * Lund University (LU) – Svezia * Hanoi University of Mining and Geology (HUMG) * Hue University (HU) * Vietnamese-German University (VGU) * Phenikaa University (PU) * VidaGIS (VG) The success of this mission marks a significant step forward in promoting sustainability in Vietnam—a country experiencing rapid economic growth that urgently needs sustainable solutions for its future. — L'articolo CADEO: The Outreach Mission in Vietnam to Promote Sustainability and Innovation proviene da DICA - Website.
